Can all schools use Tahi?

Tahi will be available to any school connected to N4L’s Managed Network. Only schools connected to the N4L Managed Network will be able to use Tahi.

How much does Tahi cost?

Tahi is fully funded for all schools connected to N4L’s Managed Network.

Which web browsers does Tahi support?

Tahi supports most modern web browsers, however it works best when using:
IE 11.x and above
Firefox 42.x and above
Chrome 47.x and above

How do schools pay for applications they want to access with Tahi?

Schools need to purchase licences/subscriptions direct from application providers, as they do now. Once purchased, schools can then use Tahi to access the application.

Do schools continue to pay for their Student Management System if they start using Tahi?

Yes. Schools using Tahi will still need to purchase licences/subscriptions from their SMS provider (as you would now).

What support is available to schools for setup?

Tahi is a self-service tool for schools. To support the set up and use of Tahi a range of training materials are available on our website and N4L’s Helpdesk is also available to provide support. The Helpdesk is available Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm and can be contacted by calling 0800 LEARNING or emailing tahi@n4l.co.nz.

How do I change my password?

Your password can be changed online. To change it, log in to Tahi, then click on “My Profile”. Your school’s Tahi Administrator can also change your password for you.

I’ve forgotten my password how do I reset it?

Your Tahi password can be reset online. A number of security questions will be asked of you. These are the questions you selected when you first set up your Tahi profile. Alternatively your school’s Tahi Administrator can also reset your password. If they are unable to help, they will contact us on 0800 Learning or tahi@N4L.co.nz.

How do I sign up?

The Principal of your school is the person who will need to complete the initial authorisation process. They are required to accept the terms and conditions of Tahi and assign a person responsible for administering Tahi (a Tahi Administrator) for your school.  The assigned administrator will then be able to start the setup process. They will need to have administrative rights to the school SMS setup to complete the Tahi setup process.  To sign up to use Tahi, click here.

Our schools' current SMS is not an N4L SMS Partner. Can we still sign up for Tahi?

If your SMS provider is an N4L partner, then you can use Tahi. You can find this list on the bottom of this page here. N4L is working to bring more SMS Partners on board, so if you don’t see your SMS provider in this list, then please let us know by emailing tahi@n4l.co.nz. You can also share this website with your SMS provider and encourage them to contact N4L.

As an administrator, how long will it take to set up my school to use Tahi?

Once your school has signed up here, the next step is to configure your school’s SMS to enable the N4L SMS Extender to receive data. Once the data is flowing successfully into Tahi you’ll receive your school’s master login details needed to setup Tahi. Setup will take you a few minutes which will then allow you to distribute usernames and passwords for users to access all your Tahi enabled apps. Remember, your SMS data needs to be up to date to get the most out of Tahi.

Can I change my user name?

No. Tahi usernames are created automatically to ensure that they are one of a kind.  Your username stays with you throughout your school career.

I can't login to Tahi

If you cannot access Tahi you can check the N4L system status page found here to see if there are any known issues. Alternatively you should contact your school’s Tahi Administrator. If this is you, then please contact us on 0800 Learning or tahi@N4L.co.nz.

I can’t login to an application

In the first instance you should contact your school’s Tahi Administrator. If they are unable to help, then they will contact us on 0800 Learning or tahi@N4L.co.nz

What data does Tahi use?

Details on what information is accessed can be found hereAs per N4L’s Privacy Policy (located on the N4L website), personal information is only kept for as long as is reasonably required to achieve the purpose(s) for which we may use it, unless we are required by law to hold the information for a longer period.

How does Tahi keep my school’s data secure?

Information from your school’s SMS is transferred to Tahi through N4L’s SMS Extender. This is a product built by N4L to ensure data is  safe and secure while being transferred from the SMS provider to Tahi. Think of it as a holding tank, where the user information that is needed to access the application is held. Once in Tahi, data is safely secured and only released to apps which are setup to use Tahi.

What is the SMS Extender?

It’s like a ‘holding tank,” where the user information that is needed to access the application is held. This ensures the information in a school’s Student Management System remains private and secure, and that neither Tahi nor the application have direct access to the data held within the SMS. The SMS Extender holds only the most recent information (it is updated every day from the SMS). From this, it creates a “Tahi identity” for each user, securing the data from the SMS so it is not available to N4L, application providers, or any other user.

What’s involved in being the Tahi Administrator for my school?

Managing users and applications within Tahi is straightforward. The key is ensuring you have accurate data in your SMS, and that you have setup an appropriate password policy suitable for the age of your students. With good data that is kept up to date, managing Tahi should be easy.

Who do I call if I need help?

Your school’s Tahi Administrator should be your first port of call. If you are the Tahi Administrator then you can contact the helpdesk on 0800 Learning or tahi@n4l.co.nz between 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday.

I’m an administrator - where/how do I sign in to Tahi?

You can sign into Tahi to manage Apps and users. Click on the “Login to Tahi” button found at the top of the N4L website. A step by step guide is available to you here should you need some help.

How do I login to an app with Tahi?

You should see a “Sign in with Tahi” button found on the app’s homepage or its login screen. Some apps may choose to provide schools with a custom login URL and this will be sent to your school’s Tahi Administrator.

How do I ensure my SMS data is up to date?

The assigned Tahi Administrator for your school will receive an email once a day if there are any issues with the quality of your SMS data. These issues will need to be corrected in the SMS for the users to be able to use the Tahi enabled apps.  If there are no issues with the SMS data, Tahi will be configurable straight away.

Can I set up Tahi from my mobile device (ipad or mobile phone)?

Yes, however at this stage, Tahi works best on a larger screen device such as a laptop or desktop.

How does my SMS link to the SMS Extender?

Information from your school’s SMS is transferred to Tahi through N4L’s SMS Extender.  N4L has worked with each partnering SMS provider to ensure data transferred is done safely over the internet using trusted security standards. The SMS extender is like a holding tank, where the user information that is needed to access the application is held. Once in Tahi, data is safely secured and only released to apps which are setup to use Tahi.

How do I know that I have set everything up correctly?

You will know you have everything setup correctly when your Tahi Administrator receives an email with your school’s Master Tahi login credentials and once you have no outstanding validation errors in your daily summary email notifications.

How do I know that my SMS data is up to date and correct?

The assigned administrator for your school will receive daily email notifications of any issues with the data received from your SMS. If you have no outstanding validation errors, you’re good to go!

What happens if I move schools?

Your Tahi identity will follow you throughout your school career. So if your next school uses Tahi to access applications, then you can use your Tahi login with those applications too!

What happens if the school I move to does not use Tahi?

Your Tahi access will continue to exist but be limited to your profile only. You will not be able to access any Tahi enabled apps using your Tahi login. If your new school uses Tahi, you will be able to access the apps which have been enabled at that school.
