Recently N4L was given the interim contract to offer an ICT Advisory service for schools while an RFP process allowed the Ministry of Education to assess applications for a more permanent solution. This Interim ICT Advisory Service is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, and is available to all schools connected to the N4L Managed Network.

Introducing Tim Harper and Tim Kong – both teachers and keen techies within their capacity as e-learning leads or technical directors. They have been chosen for their understanding of what a school needs to be progressive in an increasingly digital world and their objective view of how these needs can be fulfilled.

Tim Kong is the latest team member and working part time from Wellington means he’s still spending half of each week in his classroom at Seatoun School. He believes a personal approach is what schools need, not a corporate response, encouraging the opening of communication pathways and building relationships between schools and vendors to effectively solve issues.

With e-learning and technology being touted as the next ‘best thing’, there is often a disconnect between the ideas and the reality in the classroom as the infrastructure can’t support the devices and demands from both teachers and students. Clear and objective advice can ensure that infrastructure cleverly supports the current demands in a school and possible future demands.

Tim Kong’s aim is to “help empower schools” to make the right decisions for themselves, armed with all of the right information.
