areAs we head into a new school year, we want to help you get your school’s unmanaged and personal devices ready for the N4L Secure Access network.

Prerequisite: ensure a smooth transition, please note that school Google or Microsoft credentials are required for authentication. Please ensure users have these details before attempting to enrol their devices.

How to enrol new devices
Enrolment is a simple process using existing school credentials.

  • Personal and unmanaged devices (staff/students): Use your school’s unique Secure Access enrolment URL. This URL is accessible from any location with an internet connection. Depending on the type of device, follow the appropriate process.
  • Shared and third-party devices (such as printers, TVs, IoT): use the Device Registration tool in MyN4L.
  • Managed devices: if you use an MDM system (e.g. Jamf) or Google Admin Console, mass-enrolment via certificates remains the most efficient method.

Start of year checklist

  • Verify enrolments: confirm all school-owned devices are enrolled so staff can roam seamlessly between access points.
  • Audit shared devices: ensure printers etc. are named clearly in MyN4L for accurate logging and reporting.
  • Guest Access: ensure staff know how to use the Guest Access tool for your school visitors.
  • Directory cleanup: remove any staff or students who have left the school from your user directory.
  • MDM tasks: complete any pending tasks early to avoid certificate delivery delays.
