As school prepares to close down for the year, the N4L Helpdesk elves are kindly giving the gift of some key information, to consider as you prepare for summer holiday closures.

Before you leave school for the summer…

We understand that some schools like to turn off their equipment during the holiday period. This is an environmentally conscientious thing to do, however if your school is planning to turn things off there are a couple of things you should be aware of:

  • Please ensure the N4L router and ONT are left on. The ONT will look similar to this:

Leaving the N4L router powered on will ensure…

  • Any onsite services that your school is using, like Remote Access, will continue to operate and be accessible by staff over the holidays.
  • If your school email server is hosted internally, leaving the N4L router powered on will ensure emails continue to be delivered. If turned off, emails will be not be delivered and they will instead be “bounced back” to the sender after 72 hours (and will not be delivered once the server is turned back on).
  • Standard updates to the N4L router can take place.

Support over the Christmas Period

  • Through the holiday period (18th December 2015 to 14th January 2016) technicians will be available to restore lost connectivity on the Managed Network, should any faults arise, however other requests may be delayed, so please plan accordingly.
  • Support for Pond continues as normal.

During the Christmas period we will continue to be contactable by both phone and email. Our opening hours are as follows:

Christmas Day – CLOSED

26th to 28th December – CLOSED

29th December – 9am – 3pm

30th December – 9am – 3pm

31st December – 9am – 3pm

1st – 4th January – CLOSED

5th January – Normal hours resume (8am to 5pm)

And last but not least…

From all of us here in the helpdesk team, we wish you a fantastic holiday period and a happy new year. See you in 2016!
