Managed Network Upgrade

We’re updating our safety services as part of the Managed Network Upgrade. The upgrade will transition every school to a new combined router, firewall and internet filtering solution. This new industry-leading solution (currently used by schools, governments, and businesses worldwide) will be centrally managed and contribute to the wider services and support offered by N4L.

The rollout involves the installation of a new N4L router, which involves a physical replacement of the existing router. This ‘box’ will ensure schools remain connected to the Managed Network, provide access to smarter reporting tools, and will also support a school’s ability to receive an upgrade to the bandwidth allocation – when required.

A technology partner, representing N4L, will complete the onsite upgrade of N4L equipment. These visits will take place during school term time and outside of significant schools events (e.g. examinations).

Timeline

The upgrade is scheduled to be completed for all schools connected to the Managed Network by the beginning of Term 4, 2019.

Our commitment to you

We’re committed to providing equitable access to our technology services. This remains true through the rollout of hardware across 2400+ schools. While this does present its challenges, we’ll be working with schools and technology partners to ensure that the rollout schedule reflects a diverse range:

  • School size: based on student roll
  • School type: primary, intermediate, composite, secondary
  • Location: region – including rural and urban*
  • Decile

*Subject to the regional availability of partner services.

We’ll be identifying schools in monthly batches and working with IT partners to schedule appointments. We aim to notify schools the month before their upgrade and confirm appointments (date/time) at least a week in advance.

We understand that some schools may be coming off contract for existing security services, or may have been investigating future services. Where schools may be financially impacted by a delayed upgrade, we recommend getting in touch with the team to review options.
