The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is advising organisations to be increasingly vigilant, following an increase in denial of service (DoS) and brute forcing activities in relation to the situation in Iran.

Denial of service is an attempt to make an online service unavailable by overwhelming the service with more traffic than it can handle.

Brute forcing is a method that systematically tries all possible passwords or encryption keys until the correct one is found, exploiting weak credentials through automated, repetitive guessing to gain unauthorised access to systems or data.

We’re monitoring the situation and will contact your school directly if we see anything suspicious on your network. To find out more, including how you can help protect against and mitigate these threats, check out the NCSC alert here.
