Before clicking on the contents of the email, always check the sender email address. Genuine emails from Waka Kotahi come from @nzta.govt.nz, @enews.nzta.govt.nz or @reply.nzta.govt.nz. For more information, the Waka Kotahi website has details on the valid email formats they use for sending out communications, as well as further details on this type of phishing scams.

If you have found an email that is not from Waka Kotahi, please do not click further into the email and move it into your junk/spam folder.

Waka Kotahi advises people who might have fallen victim to the scam should contact their bank immediately and ask it to stop the suspicious payments. If you’re a victim, please report it here.
